In the movie, the Gladiator, the Roman emperor, Commodus turns down his thumb that he raised up in the colosseum. Suddenly, some of audience jubilates, iron gates are opened and lions jump on a hero, Maximus, or other gladiators attack him. Maximus probably die from those offenses. As the scene of the movie, the power of determining of someone's life depends on only a gesture that the emperor makes his big finger forward to downward, and vice versa. In this case, the emperor's thumb has special meanings, life or death. A crowd recognizes what he is saying at once.

A symbol, in general, is a sign or object that represents something else. Basically, symbol consists of physical characters and meanings have ideas. For example, Albert Einstein who is well known the most genius scientist has a white hair and mustache. His physical characters form to his identity, so that it comes up general images of scientist. The movie, the Back to the future, there is a great inventor Doc, Brown who invents a time machine. He has white hair although no mustache. It emphasizes the article and makes more fresh than using real word "get success". Authority easily refers to specific item comes from substitution has authority. Most of all parts are seen in position that associated with particular objects that become symbols of the office they hold.
