Essay 1.2

803 words

Symbols are objects, characters, or other concrete representations of ideas, concepts, or other abstractions. All symbols operate as if they were two-sided coins. On one side are the physical characteristics, and on the other side are the meanings, or what the symbols stand for.

Different countries have it own symbol. In Hong Kong, everyone is rush for everythingAwkward. For example: rush for work and rush for school even hanging out with friends also in rush. Hong Kong people always scare about running out of time. Everything seems to be fast. Some of my foreign friends have told me this symbol{1} in Hong Kong. But I haven't realized it because I have got used to be rush and fast all the time. I think we should get more relax and enjoy the living in Hong Kong. Moreover it is hard to remove the symbol so easy. Because all of the people are get used to it and they don't think it is a problem.

An entire nation may be represented by an array of symbols. For example, the combat between symbolic animals - the eagle represented the United States. King Tutankhamen with symbols of office: a flail and the curved staff and Queen Elizabeth of England shown wearing a crown to symbolize her office. All of them are the most symbol thingAwkward in their country. You can find those symbols easily in their country. It is representing their homeland. When Hong Kong is still a British colony, we can see bronze statue of Queen Elizabeth in everywhere. For example- Primary schools, colleges and all the departments of government. In the 1960s in the United States, all men in authority had short hair. Base on the rule, we need to obey it for sure.Awkward But things seem to have both sides. Some young men created a symbol of opposition when they allowed their hair to grow long. They have their own mind and they don't want to obey the government. So they keep the hair grow long to reflect their disagreement. Until now, it still have some kind of people are not agree with their country's government all over the world. They may think the government take the whole decision and seems to take away their freedom of choosing from their hands. They will make protest for reflected the angry and the disagreement. Political symbols may seem trivial, but in reality, people will die rather than deny them or give them up. People's identity as members of a group is powerfully bound up with such symbols. I agree with those protesters sometimes. The world hasn't the exactly right for everything. Lots of people doing the same thing is not meaning right. But many people do think it is absolutely wrong if those particular people don't obey the rule. They are hard to accept by those normal people. It is a controversial issue. Do symbols make the things goes right or wrongExplain? Nobody has the absolute answer.

Culture rules determine every aspect of food preparation. A lot of countries have their different rules. Different persons served the different kinds of food. And for example-Invited guests to have cocktails, regular meals and special dinners divided the important status. It is the type of food symbolizes the category of guest and with whom it is eaten. In some New Guinea societies, the nuclear family won't eat together. The men need to have their dinner in their own house and the wife and the children eat separately in their own house too. In my experience, I have a host who is Indian that never eat beef and pork based on their religion. They used to have chicken and fish only. It is a rule that never changed. The food culture is from the old history mostly. So it is irreplaceable.

The arrangement of space also is a big knowledge too.??? Some countries also made important statements about social groupings and social relationships. The dinning seat depends on who is the highest-ranking person in the house and the family. It has different traditional in each country. In my family, we didn't have the certain seat for the family members. Because all of my family thought it is too old-fashioned.

In conclusion, symbols are essential in each parts of our culture. It influences from our daily life. Something set since we were born. You can define which is right and which is wrong. Unfortunately you just can't delete it from our old history. Symbolism affects us. Some may say symbols isn't that affect to all the peoples in the whole world. I disagree with those people. I don't think it is a matter when I was a kid too. Nevertheless, once you grow up the more reality you can see is affected by symbols. You can also say it is traditional.
