Essay 1.2

691 words

There are various arenas of everyday life incorporated with different functions that symbols may serve. Stadium, in-door playground, out-door playground, gridiron, and so on have individual symbols to represents those own places. Extracting from those humdrum lists of various arenas of everyday life, there is a peculiar arena so called Coliseum.

First of all, Coliseum has been using for a tourist place nowadays. It affects our everyday lives by showing its own construction type as symbolize ancient Italy's characteristic. It represents ancient Italy symbolically using its own construction principle {1} as in the article "San Francisco Legislator Pushes Feng Shui Building Codes" mainly describe the new innovation of building construction in California. A major symbol of appearance of coliseum is the exterior shows the partially intact outer wall and the mostly intact inner wall. Feng Shui, which symbolizes or translates as "wind and water," is a collection of ancient Chinese traditions intended to improve a person' life through the carefully planned design of buildings and the objects within them.

Second, Coliseum also defines indirectly cultural rule and the environment in particular ear of Rome in its period of when the construction was built. In that time, coliseum was used for gladiators' (originally in position of slave) fighting to do a favor of an emperor's joy of watching them. So it's possible to assume that ancient Rome was very strict about people's rank. Basically, most slaves are completely isolated from high-people in ancient Rome. It is very similar to the one example of a caste system in India from an article "Symbolic Systems and Meanings". A caste system consists of ranked groups, each with a different economic specialization. In such way, members of highly ranked groups can be polluted by coming into contact with the bodily secretions, particularly salvia, of other individuals of lower-ranked castes. From the purpose of used Coliseum was to divide lower-ranked people to play entertainments that make higher-ranked people to enjoy.

Third, Coliseum was the place most likely authorized for only people who are in higher-rank. Further more, it may symbolize or represents how ancient Rome society was strict about the people's rank. The sentence from the article about the arrangements of space also makes important symbolic statements about social groupings and a social relationship has alike similarity. An example of Nuchanulth house floor plan, and Thai village house floor plan, shows where higher-rank people should stay, and lower-rank people should stay. It also explains that lower-rank people are not allowed to enter high-rank people's place or room whatsoever.

Fourth, when people go to regular stadium, in-door playground or out-door playground, there is always reserved seat or place has already been taken from other people who may possibly in higher position. I personally have been one of those places once or twice when I was younger. I'm not quite sure what I got an answer for my question from someone; however I think I asked regarding the seats those already taken from some other people. I wasn't allowed to seat those particular reserved seats. Then I remember someone told me that those seats are most likely for people who already paid for or rather be people who in higher position.

In conclusion, there are quite many examples from Coliseum. Because, Coliseum is such great construction with its own ancient Rome characteristics, and other traditional appearance which people can assume the style of Rome as a whole. I personally think it is great building (arena) and it survived over numbers of generations. Better yet, I found a lot of similarities that relates to our every day live in symbolic way and examples from a book in symbolic systems. Many of slaves were used to gratify higher-rank people in many different ways which I feel lugubrious about those slaves. In the view of traditional, it may help to keep the society of ancient Rome resolute and well organized. Nowadays, there aren't very many societies that involve rank system and as time go on; the statistical amount of using that kind of system is decreasing. Therefore, I think it is very good to be that way, because rank-system doesn't really respect individuals.
